In other news. I have had two new products bought off my head recently. :) They are what I call half-circlets. They also make great hijab clips which is funny because most of my sales have been from Muslim girls lately. They are a new product that I am still testing that vaguely look Elven. There are also a few more pieces that will be hitting boutiques very soon that I have posted pictures of in this post. Thoughts? I’m taking the non-bridal stuff to a different direction at the moment. It looks a lot more modern Bohemian.

Aside from catching up on University work after being sick with the flu for so long. I will not give up Quaintrella - I’m currently waiting for the seasons to turn into Spring so I can set up an appointment with a prominent stockist (a museum) for my gorgeous Quaintrella goodies. I will be moving into a more bridal direction later on in the year and have tonnnnnssss of new product I haven’t posted about. I will do that in the coming weeks.

Currently, I will be stocking in by stockist boutiques more so then my Etsy. We’ll see what happens. I have let my creative passions flow both ways but I have always wanted to pursue a high-end market. This will be my chance to see just how strong I can be in proving I can take a cutthroat market and challenge the way I do things. The price points are higher and my business plan is almost done. :)

It is quite rare I ever consistently do outfit shots and this does sadden me a bit. But, it is a New Year’s Resolution of mine to try to take more outfit shots! I had actually just dyed my hair my synthetic red. I actually bought out the stock of this red at Pacific Mall when Palty (Japanese hair dye company) announced they were discontinuing it. So, that is the last of my synthetic red shade until I get another Japanese brand or find more of this color. So sad.

This outfit was for the first day opening of Underworld Awakening. I love nothing more then seeing women in catsuits in movies. Kate Beckinsale in PVC is no exception. I loved the movie and am so happy Michael and Selene have a child together. I hate how so many stereotypical fantasy-horror movie genres make vampires dead soulless sterile beings. Life would be so much more beautiful if they could have children with each other (or so the sappy romantic in me would like to think). Then again, there are probably a few sick vampires out there who would abuse this biological advantage. But, let’s not get into the technicalities. :) I definitely think the plot has been getting better as every movie is made in the Underworld series. I really wish I watched it in 3D now.

Another update with my COVEN by Sonia Kang line is that I have finally sewn chain on to the bird skull clutch. It looks amazing. So far, I have a waiting list of at least 5 orders (1 overseas) for the clutch and I have been recommended a couple boutiques to approach in Yorkville once I start production of it after all the testing and refining. Exciting news! I have also started a sample product that I made from scrap leather from the bird skull clutch. I braided the leather and made a really really cool studded headband (I’m wearing it in my outfit shot) which I want to sell very soon after I make a few more tweaks to it. What do you guys think about my new direction and re-branding?

Also, I feel like since re-branding COVEN by Sonia Kang I feel like I should add more black in my wardrobe. I spent two years removing it from my wardrobe and now I want to go back. The irony.

I have had a crazy few days with little sleep and attempting to do as much as I can with the time I putt around being insane - creatively insane that is. People always ask me how I do what I do. I just don’t sleep that much and it has really destroyed pieces of me. Hahaha. I can’t stay on a consistent sleep schedule. Even sleeping early is hard because my body now runs on 5 hour sleep and 1-2 hour power naps.

The great news is that this Passion for Fashion program I completed has this great little middle? Aside from the cash prize competition the best part I think is the MENTORS. I now have FASHION INDUSTRY MENTORS. You have no idea how excited I am over this and I have Mentors who have experience in adding environmental value and charitable causes to their businesses. Something, I strive for. This is so great! I met most of them yesterday and I was so impressed by all these people who are just willing to help budding entrepreneurs like myself. The Fashion Tribe was there too! What a great thing.

I would like to personally thank, Gail McInnes, our lovely coordinator of PFF for doing this. Without her, this program would not exist and I wouldn’t have ever found the niche I belong in. I met lovely Mentors and had great insight into the industry. THANK YOU, GAIL! :)

For the Mentor Meet and Greet I made a leather envelope clutch for myself last minute. There’s the sneak peek before I take better photographs of it. :) Yes, it’s an epic bird skull clutch - I already have 4 commissions for it since debuting it. However, it’ll be at least 2 months of testing, wear-and tear, durability, and refinement BEFORE I feel comfortable to sell it. I have insanely high standards and I want to know how I can make my product the best it can be before I sell it. It makes new designs for me slower to get to the market but it also gives me a chance to perfect it.

This will be sold under COVEN by Sonia Kang. I’m hoping the upcoming editorial that will feature a few of my pieces chooses this clutch. It’s too epic to not go into a magazine. :)

I have some rather exciting news! I have my 7th Stockist! My two lines, Quaintrella and COVEN by Sonia Kang (I have decided to re-brand and separate my more gothic and taxidermy lines to this brand) are now carried at MADE YOU LOOK a boutique on Queen West. It’s actually a few minutes from my condo - which I find quite convenient. This boutique is fabulous and was voted the TOP Jewellery boutique by NOW Magazine and BlogTO for 2011. It has a ridiculous amount of variety and is total eye-candy for the accessories aficionado.

In other news, this is myself and designer buddy, Veruca Cyn had our outfit shots taken by a street fashion photographer, Nigel of Toronto Verve while we were out with the Fashion Tribe and supply shopping.

Funny, we are polar opposites when it comes to our typical personal fashion choices until I don my leather. ;) Only then, do we have the same tastes. I only wear my leather at night - like a vampire. A fashion vampire. Hahahaha.

Aside from being polar opposites in our personal fashion choices we do however share an insanely similar taste for positivity. Funny enough, it has reaped us so many small successes and a ‘Never Give Up on Yourself’ outlook on life.

New Ofelia Ljuv Collection SS 2012 pieces!

One of the things I always like to ask my stockists (boutiques I sell at) is for feedback. If you strive to improve upon product, services, and yourself - feedback is essential unless you want to be stuck in a habit of simply doing everything the same. I do not care if it’s hurtful, blunt, or even minor. Anything helps because if I am going to change AND succeed I will take the hits early and get over my ego.

One of my stockists, Nathalie, had told me months ago certain things I should look into for my Ofelia Ljuv Collection. My Ofelia Ljuv Collection is all about Mori Girl aesthetics - bringing in the natural world, upcycling scrap fabrics and laces, and using bits and pieces of found objects. She had told me that I should consider silk and linens for backings of my pendant necklaces and brooches because some people are allergic to wool. That, wool was also a material limited to seasonality. She said that I should explore other color options since my palette was limited to beiges, creams, and browns. There was also positive feedback received on the versatility of certain pieces - combinations where a headpiece could be a brooch and necklace. At the same time she said my aesthetic was very romantic and feminine which means I should attempt to test the bridal market.

I took this feedback to heart with my most recent Ofelia Ljuv Collection. I went to fabric stores on Queen Street looking through scrap and end piece bins for remnant silks. As the minimums for silk usually start at 1/2 meter which in my opinion was at a price I did not want to pay for the small quantities I use. My friend, Stacy, also gave me scraps from her wedding dress to upcycle when she heard my dilemma with the minimums for silks. Thanks, Stacy! I always try to use end-pieces even with much of my MOKUBA trims I always try to shop the discontinued section because they will never be reproduced and they are essentially very expensive end pieces. For Ofelia Ljuv I also use chiffon from clothing I find at thrift stores that are already slightly beyond repairable. I delicately take them apart and make the scraps into flowers.

Here are some of my resulting pieces made from mostly upcycled materials. The filling for these pieces is actually the bits of chiffon scraps from making the flowers. :) The variable hues in the laces achieved through a tea-dyeing process. They are pretty and I am immensely proud of them. Also, because for the first time I used consistent freshwater pearls. I used to only use freshwater pearls I got randomly in those baggies of random beads at bead stores. They were an investment and it’s reflective in the pricing of these new pieces. They are also versatile pieces that can be a headpiece, necklace, brooch, and even a sweater guard attachment (not shown).

I’m hoping to submit them to The Textiles Museum Shop in time for Spring where they will shine among those who are passionate textiles aficionados like myself. I am really loving the organic feel of the freshwater pearls and silks used. What do you think? Love it? Would you wear it?

I recently had Mexican with two of my closest friends from high school. One was my best friend, M. who lives and works in Montreal who I can go long periods of time with little communication but as soon as we meet we bounce right back where we left off. That, is a true soul sister. I finally, after many many months gave her the straw cat head bag I got for her on Taobao. She loved it and said it was the best one I have given her yet. She’s a crazy cat lady so as soon as I saw it on Taobao I just had to get it for her. She in return got me my dream book unwittingly.

The whole story of her finding this book was quite comical. She was reading a feminist magazine called, Bitch Mag, and saw a Christmas gift giving feature. One of the features was 'Gifts for The Mushroom Lover’ and she read the description of Paul Stamets’ book: Mycellium Running - How Mushrooms Can Save The World. Gleefully thought it was perfect for me…ordered it off Amazon and gifted it to me. The whole thing felt like fate…actually, many things have been just feeling so RIGHT. I’m so happy with the book and I really really admire Paul Stamets work. For god sakes, he OWNS www.fungi.com as a domain name. That is juuuuust the epitome of awesome-ness.

This year is going to be epic. I’m so positive and certain about many things. For one, I am meeting with the owner of a boutique this coming week so I can prospectively place my accessories in another store…less then 10 days into the 2012 year. I have my friend, Gabe Toth, to thank for the beautiful professional pictures that I think helped a lot. I’m eternally grateful. Please, check out his gorgeous work! I hope I can add another stockist - then it’ll be 3 more stores before I submit my business plan for review to my German contact to set up a stockist in Germany. :) Wish me luck!

Photo Shoot for Men’s Bird Skull Necklace

I recently helped my photographer friend the brilliant, Gabe Toth, with a photo shoot he was doing. We were friends when we worked together in the same company but we are closer now that we are heading in the same direction. The fashion industry. He has done photography for some time but now it is a full-time job. His work is so crisp, professional, and I can always pick out a sort of balance in his pictures. It is a little hard to explain - but it is a feeling, an aesthetic, a touch that is really just his own. Steamy topless photos are enclosed in the link below…

He is one of the few people in my life that believes in the entrepreneurial route and constantly prods me to keep in the spirit of my passions. For that, I am always thankful for. It’s nice to have someone who believes in you and is actually living the dream you also want of working for yourself. I love helping him out. One of the reasons is because I am genuinely curious about what fashion photography entails. I mostly hold things up, move things, adjust things, hold a fan, and all the other little things. But, every time I am there I gain an experience and usually a new friend in the industry. I am hoping for this brand new 2012 year we hang out more and facilitate ideas and make beautiful pictures. His work is just so impeccable.

This has to be one of my most favourite photos from the shoot. The contrast with the jeans, the board I was ‘holding up’, the colors and the necklace just pop! The model, Edris Zal is gorgeous and has a body that some of my girl friends would just do bad things to get close to. :P He actually had a personality similar to that of my brother’s childhood friends so I was not zombie-fied by the muscles like some would. He will be going to Milan soon and is very friendly - I wish him the best in his travels and the industry. He’s the first model I have met in a professional photo shoot! I’d love to hear more of his work abroad in Milan and elsewhere.

Happy New Year and Holidays Catch-Up Post

This will mostly be a belated catch-up post of my holidays. I hope everyone had a awesome holidays like I did! Wishing all my readers, clients, stockists and friends the best for the New Year!

I really took advantage of my Christmas holidays in 2011. It feels strange saying last year because it seems like it was so long ago yet I still remember it. I made a list of what I wanted to do and accomplished most of it. To top it off my University grades were awesome - very awesome for a person who balances a PT job, full-time university, and a fashion business. I was surprised.

But, I know my perseverance has been very high since the whole debacle with my former business partner. I almost have to thank her for giving me a better view of my priorities - because without the bullshit and drama I wouldn’t have been this successful. Sometimes, I wonder what she took from the experience. I certainly learned I was stronger than I thought I was. That I can conquer my fears. :)

It makes me so proud to say that my brand has been carried by six local boutiques.

Even prouder is the fact I did it by myself mostly in under 7 months as soon as I launched Quaintrella. There has to be something said about that and not letting people tell me: ‘You can’t do this..’, ‘You can’t sell better then this person..’, ‘You need this…’. If I faced an obstacle I just told myself to take it as an experience and learn from it. I don’t let anyone bring me down in the process. Yes, it’s been difficult and testing at times. But, I did it.

I was recently told my unwavering attitude is what makes me different. It came up in a discussion with a co-worker about a mutual friend who was unable to find a job in her field. I told my co-worker this:

“If I can’t find a job in my field then I’d make my own. I don’t believe in being told I am not good enough.”

Sometimes, economic conditions are bad. Everyone has a degree but no one can find a job. But, we all come out of University and College with skills that make us very employable. One of them is the tenacity to stick at a 4-5 year long education. Sometimes, I feel that University and College teaches us to essentially work for someone else. You don’t have to.

If I couldn’t find a job in my field I would first try internships, volunteering, and even exploring my passions (like my brand Quaintrella). I would not settle for less and most of all I would utilize my education to perhaps evens start my own company. I study Environmental Studies in the Ecological Management stream but all my courses have been on a business slant. I would attempt to harness that into consulting businesses on their sustainability practices and it’s effects on their branding.

I don’t trust an education enough to bring me just a job as soon as I graduate. Sure, I look forward to graduation in 1.5 years but I know that the economy is also being brought down with the meltdown in the EU zone. I know everyone will be effected and I can already see the results slowly happening. But, there’s always an under appreciated market waiting to be exploited. Find it and make it your own.

Some of us might feel entitled after our expensive educations. At the end of the day that’s just a paper you get. You have to go out there and make it worth it. To experience it on the forefront. Don’t turn down the opportunities to see it at every angle and when it comes to deciding never settle for less then your worth. Because, we are all worth more then we think.

My New Year’s Resolutions will probably be posted later on. It’s a huge list and I hope I can accomplish all that I have set out for myself. :)

Visited The Distillery District’s Lowes Christmas Market. Saw this as I went to my PT job’s Christmas Party and was entranced by the atmosphere and ended up going back with my family the last day of the event. It was gorgeous and well worth the cold weather. The Distillery District is a portion of Toronto where heritage buildings of old factories still exist but revamped into boutiques and studios. Gorgeous area and the vendors at the Christmas Market all were located in these tiny log cabins. Even better was the ferris wheel and merry-go-round. I will definitely be going again next year because it really embodies the best of the holiday season.

H&M’s Dragon Tattoo Launch

I recently attended an event that I found out from the F-list which apparently according to many of my friends was not a publicly advertised event. I shared it with the ‘Fashion Tribe’ and most of us ended up going. It’s been a while since we have all seen each other - half of us are still in school which puts constraints on certain months. But, I had one more exam after the event and I had promised myself I would go because the stress of finals was killing me slowly on the inside. I’m glad I did - H&M provided free finger foods (the mini slider hamburgers were a piece of heaven) and free alcohol. Shopping Like a French Girl - Part 1

Right now, I am having one of those moments where I wished I shopped more like a French Girl.

I just splurged again on a dress, leg warmers, a new leather belt, and some socks. Sometimes, it feels like I am on a constant quest to: A) Obtain the biggest closet in the world or B) Dance around the edge of debt or C) Fill a void deep within me. When I get really overwhelmed I shop. When I feel down I shop. When I am happy I shop more… It’s a vicious cycle.

However, I feel as if my shopping choices are now gravitating towards more quality items. Things I know that will add to my wardrobe rather then be one time stand alone items. I barely shop for jewelry nowadays because I always end up losing at least half of my earrings. I only buy statement piece necklaces I cannot make.

Everything else, I know I in one way or another am able to make. Clothing is a little more difficult as I am consumed by a fire when I create clothes. Unfortunately, it’s the fire of perfectionism. If it isn’t perfect I can’t touch it. If somethings off - I can’t feel good about it. But, once it has reached that high standard I just love wearing it. That is a rare occasion because I know exactly where I have made a mistake were something is just a teensy bit off.

Buying is so much easier on my psychological health. But, understanding this ‘French’ way of shopping has definitely allowed me to appreciate high-end brands more. I love reading about how someone’s mom or grandmother had a (insert old high-end brand here) for this many years and how it was so classic and versatile. I really wish I could dump the $500+ on a quality shirt that I could use my whole life. However, there are two things that trump this notion: “instant gratification" and the inability to forever stick to a brands “aesthetic appeal”.

If there is one thing I love about fashion it is this constant recreation of my physical appearance. Being a 20’s-something means that I have not quite settled on the idea of buying into a certain ‘look’. Which is exactly what high-end luxury brands do as they tend to be associated with a lifestyle. I don’t buy Versace because I find their whole Italian look so distinct and in your face. I don’t invest in Louis Vuitton because the amount of time I would spend saving for a purse would have meant I could have bought at least 2 vintage purses at the fraction the price and be totally one of a kind instead of being a diluted form of luxury that many people can attain. Perhaps, when I am older I can appreciate this more.

Until then I can only attempt to set goals to ‘Shop like a French Girl’:

Buy only what I need that will accentuate my current wardrobe.
Invest in quality pieces but never buy full price. Shop timeless luxury during sales.
Buy items that make me feel good and I will not be tempted to donate after 1 year.
Shop from the heart not from fast fashion trends.

Neat Freaking It, City of Craft, and Other Art Show Wanderings!

I have been on holidays for the past week and whenever I have the opportunity I love to live a little. I don’t like the routine of non-spontanepus actions so this entails the setting of impossibly high standards, crazy dates, projects, and parties. Usually, being a person of whim I only get around half of the things I want done.

For example, I have been procrastinating with my bird skull clutch. I look at the pattern and I feel like it just may need more tweaking. I’m hoping I’ll have the guts to really face my fears and just do it sometime this week before I am worked to death at the part time job.

One thing that I have done is sort all my supplies into boxes and sections as you can see above. While, this is only 10% of my total supply hoard I am very proud that I sorted everything out. I have this habit of thinking I know where everything is but…it usually results in me spending a lot more then I should and having doubles of certain supplies.

I’ve also managed to successfully find a local supplier to cast me bird skulls after my normal supplier decided to switch from being a supplier to the end market. This definitely but some strain on meeting Christmas deadlines (which I didn’t think happen until one of my stockists sold out - Hells Belles specifically) but I’m glad I can manage independently at a local level. It’s funny because the new supplier lives 2 city blocks away from me and we both are generally located on Queen West. Which proves that this was simply meant to be living in one of the most vibrant parts of Toronto. :)

New Otome Dress, a Gyaru top, and gorgeous earrings!

I never blog about fashion enough. Well, my personal fashion - it’s even harder to take decent outfit pictures because I am a night owl by nature now and it’s so dreary because of winter. However, this does not deter my drive to still own very nice things. I have added so many styles to my wardrobe recently (Country, Hipster, Bohemian, Avant-Garde Goth…etc. to name a few). Right now, I am focusing on building colors and expanding what I normally wear.

I went to Pacific Mall with Veruca Cyn, my fashion tribe buddy, and we went with a shopping goal. She found her real fur earmuffs for a steal at $20 while I found the Otome dress above (which is perfectly me) for $30 flat. Pacific Mall likes to skimp on taxes if you pay in cash or debit. Mostly cash. It’s funny, because Veruca ended up knowing the owner and I got a hefty discount off that dress. And, we both ended up with that Gyaru top for a mere $12.50 - as we split the 2 for $25 costs. She ended up with a pink colorway and I got the cream. We both look adorable and I explained the Japanese concept of ‘Twinning’ to her. She tells me that that shirt is the only bright and super feminine thing she owns in her closet of dark shadowy blacks. Hahaha.

City of Craft

Hello Morico in the centre!

City of Craft was marvellous with one of the liveliest atmospheres I have EVER experienced at a craft show. It was huge and as soon as I stepped in I got tingles. My friend and fellow Mori Girl, Chu of Morico was there as well as her boyfriend, Hieng of 1% Talent. Both very very talented people with a aesthetic that I adore. Chu recommended this show to me and while we both applied - I got rejected - it was worth going to as the consumer. So many gorgeous things! I will definitely try to up my game and do it next year. I also want to try for the One-of-a-kind Show but it is a heftier investment.

The Art Collective at 38 Abell Street

That very same day of City of Craft there was also The Art Collective at 38 Abell Street which is a few building behind me on Queen West. It’s a artsy loft place which frequently has galleries and other events happening. I went to this because my new friend, Dylan of Dylanium Knits was at The Gladstone doing a show and told me that he also had stuff at The Art Collective. I visited him at The Gladstone and then headed to the venue closer to me. It was well worth it since they had free mulled apple cider (perfect for a nippy day) and numerous shortcake cookies. As I munched away, I took in the sights. I absolutely LOVE displays that incorporate such a rustic and peaceful setting.

Right now, I am consumed by total fear of really messing up on the first final I did. I just finished everything but I’m just petrified of the first one I did because I really should have NEVER set a foot into the room to do that exam. I spent those excruciating 3 hours fighting my body because I felt so sick. Which, most likely resulted in really sub-par essay skills. So upsetting!

However, one to better things in life. My friend, Wesley Burness who studies Fashion Communication at Ryerson University borrowed a few of my Dandy Boy pieces for a photo shoot assignment. Posted here are some of the results and my most favourite. I never told him what I wanted and he had complete creative freedom with his assignment but the first two pictures that used my pieces WERE EXACTLY HOW I WOULD PHOTOGRAPH THEM HAD I THE SKILL. The dreamy nostalgia, the slight play on androgyny, the black, the natural light, the brands… I was so surprised it was so spot on to what I liked.

As you can see I have (if you do not follow my TWITTER and FACEBOOK then you are missing out on what I have) been secretly working on my other aesthetic. A mixture of androgyny, chains, death, leather, and natural history. It’s for Men and Women and I’d like to somehow make it more interchangeable then what I normally do. I’m definitely drifting away from what normal taxidermy jewelry would look like. I’m currently working on a clutch, too! Keep you guys updated.

Some travel and a new headpiece

I couldn’t resist buying a toadstool decoration and a Yellow Owl Workshop Ink Pad (which I recommend highly because it sets pretty fast and doesn’t smudge under the fingertips).

I recently had a chance to visit the Wellington County which covers Kitchener, Waterloo, Elora, and St. Jacobs of Ontario - the province I lived it. It was quite a dreary day but it was well worth the trip to see a scenery that makes a City Girl with a Wild Heart like myself feel so wholesome. I would like to thank my friend, D. for taking me. I love learning about the countryside outside of my Metropolitan city of Toronto. There were such quaint little stores in Elora and St. Jacobs that were so pretty. So many unique things I wanted to buy! Including this 3D leather acorn coin holder-pouch which was well beyond my budget but I found it online at a much more affordable price.

Lately, I have been inspired to make some new pieces. I’m really loving patterned feathers and flowers. Evident in my latest work I’m striving to meld bohemian with romance as themes. Texture and softness. Airy to earthy.

New Collection and Pictures from Everyday Life

Here’s a picture what my workspace / studio looks like when I am actually working on things. I have a talent for working within chaos and finding order within it. It’s quite evident in many of the things I make or do. From afar it will look like a cluster but when you look closer it has a kind of balance or order. Very few notice it - but when they do I am very impressed.

Here are some of my latest pieces. I have yet to add to Etsy but they will most likely be going to stores instead. I haven’t made up my mind yet. I’ve really liked carved bone pieces. Especially cooky fish with really funny expressions. :) I’ve also found a way to use the silk and rayon tassel samples I bought from the Textile Museum Fabric Sale. This makes me happy and I hope it diminishes my hoard a bit.

Here are some of my latest works. I’m a total romantic bohemian at heart. Sometimes I feel more bohemian then usual. I think recently, it has really been a reoccurring theme in my life. To me, it’s just the essence of free-spirit. My latest pieces are inspired by islands, windswept beaches, sun-bleached fabrics, summer, salt, natural colors and just being free.

At the same time. My style has slowly gone towards the Hipster fashion for the Winter. Trust me, by no means am I a Hipster. I only identify with the fashion itself but not the subculture. I’ve also begun experiment with strange colors and different silhouettes. I bought green oxfords. Haha.

Halloween: Fetish Masquerade Ball

I had the opportunity to be invited to the Fetish Masquerade Ball by my friend, Veruca Cyn, who put me on the VIP list. It has always been something I had wanted to attend but never found the right crowd to go with or had the time. But, this year is different. It was wild and I loved it. Veruca was modelling for a fetish designer, Heather D. and she was absolutely breathtaking on stage dancing in her little nurse outfit. Hahahaha. With her huuuuuugggeee red hair all dolled up.

There was a feeling I got when I removed my coat and checked it in…and walked into a wildly dressed crowd not knowing anyone or what I was getting into. It made a shiver go up my spine. I felt…different. I felt like somehow I belonged - so small dark part of me just belonged here.

Short story, I got really drunk off gin mixed with juice. Made new friends, saw a lot of half naked people, some wild folk, danced for the first time in my LIFE on STAGE. I’m a very reserved person by nature and I in part blame my rather sheltered upbringing. However, everything I was ever afraid to do comes apart under two influences: Peer Pressure and Alcohol. Hahaha!

I have defied all odds this year so far. I left my business partner and I survived. I was able to do much better then we would have ever done together. I went out and got myself into stores. I saw new perspectives. Made new friends. Changed a complete crowd of people I hang out with. I balanced social life with full-time University, a part-time job, and my business. I danced. For god sake, I danced on stage. All I can say is life is awesome. I have another party to attend tonight and of course the wicked never sleep.

I have really been neglecting my website / blog, lately. I have been so swamped with school, life, business, work, and other things that have slipped my mind lately. I really need to start blogging about all the things that I have done recently.

Most notably, I made got my things into another store (not consignment, thank god) called Treehaven Natural Foods up in Erin, Ontario. I’m a City Girl so it was quite a feat and I have a lot of people to thank for it. Notably, K., D., A., A., and L. for giving me (a complete newbie) the opportunity to help stock some Christmas items at Treehaven. It was wonderful learning about the wildlife, small town life, the environment, and overall it was thoroughly inspiring. I’m touched by the generosity people have shown me and eternally grateful they put up with someone like me. I have never really done a large-scale wholesale and I think I was a complete mess because I had noooo clue they would buy much of my sample stock there and then. Hahaha. I’m still painting the "Thank You" cards. I made a small mistake with something so I’ll do my best to rectify the situation like I always do. :) I’m so grateful right now.

I attended Nuit Blanche with my ‘Fashion Tribe’. Has anyone ever read Kelly Cutrone’s book: If you have to cry, Go outside?

If you haven’t then let me explain to you what a ‘Fashion Tribe’ is. It’s a group of people you are linked to by profession, passion (for fashion), and who you solemnly swear to help out in a time of fashion-related need (haha). Fashion, I have been told over and over by my parents and some of my close friends is an ‘inane’ thing. Almost superficial.

But, you know what? It’s where my heart lies. Quite frankly, it’s where THEIR hearts lie. We are a group who go to social events, hang out, and help each other out by creating a bigger network. As you can see this is a portion of my ‘Fashion Tribe’ and it keeps growing as I learn to navigate the networking waters.

I’ll post more often as I finally get internet. I’ve been cut-off for several weeks now because I ended by Internet commitments with Rogers and Teksavvy is booked up in my rather newly constructed area. Expect a Taobao review, lots of pictures, some outfits, my new hair cut…etc. I’ll have a formal Nuit Blanche post up, too. I need to get all my pictures off all my devices and such. :)

The Creative Heart Collective, New Ideas and a Farting Alpaca!

I really love having those moments in which inspiration just strikes you hard enough to wobble your brain. I had one of those moments at 5AM while reading my Ecological Economics textbooks for University. I kept thinking about Consumerism and how it was King -> Crown -> Death…viola! My latest inspiration and foray into more gothic aesthetic. See the picture above. Wouldn’t they be perfect for an ornate necklace or ring? :)

The Creative Heart Collective was pretty nifty. I table-shared with Morico buddies Chu and Cindy. It was nice to meet old familiar faces and new ones. Thank you everyone who came out to support me! I hope to participate at bigger venues next time around.

I end this entry with my Farting Alpaca totebag from Chu of Morico. It’s a beautifully random bag of sorts…I’m not sure what draws me to it more. The fluffiness of the pictured Alpaca or the blissful expression on it’s face as it passes gas. Hahaha. Go figure.

Currently, in woe over two pairs of green shoes (one vintage and another XXI) that have slipped from my grasps. Now, before classes I’m going to go looking for some green shoes to fill the void.

Future Goals and Plans for Quaintrella

I’m a very lucky girl.

I am immensely thankful for all the opportunities presented to me to pursue my dreams. I have always believed that I will get whatever I want if I work hard for it. So far this has proved to be quite apt. I’m thankful that I know at this moment who I am, what I truly want, what I am worth, how I am going to achieve it, and who will be there with me in the very end.

I’m keeping my eye out for potential store locations when I open my own boutique in hopefully a few years. I’d prefer a Queen Street storefront but there is a lot of potential and growth in some nearby neighbourhoods that are worth keeping an eye on (one reason why I fastidiously will stalk neighbourhood statistics).

I have to go to 3 stores in Northern Ontario in the latter of this month and introduce potential Christmas stock to the owners. Yesterday, I approached an local boutique about selling with them and I have a few more in mind to approach in the coming weeks.

I am also re-connecting with my German contact to see if I can begin selling my Taxidermy lines within the country despite the double-dip recession parts of Europe is experiencing. I expect France may come next if my friend there is comfortable approaching stores on my behalf. Japan seems a little more tricky - I already have a lot of friends willing to translate communications for me but it’s a matter or which boutiques to approach as I don’t have many friends IN the country right now. If all goes well by early 2012 I’ll most likely be accompanying a friend to Miami and New York - I’ll see if my aesthetic fits somewhere. :)

TIFF Party - John Varvatos Fashion Show at Ultra Supper Club

Part of a going through a 'Quarter-Life' crisis made me realize many things.

One of them was that University does not prepare you for the real world. The real world is many things but most importantly it is a world full of social networks. I'm not talking about Twitter, Facebook, MySpace...etc. But rather the social network of who you know and who they know. I want to pursue a career in the fashion industry but it's a industry full of contacts, acquaintances, friends, and who you can connect with. In order to get opportunities you have to network.

In fashion one of the best ways to do this is to attend parties.

It just seemed like fate that a couple weeks before I was invited to a Holt Renfrew "You've been Coveteur'd" After Party hosted by a childhood acquaintance and former ELLE UK intern. She invited me and then I invited a few people from my 'Passion for Fashion' workshop. I even bumped into my rather famous publicist instructor who mans the workshop. It is a different world - especially for someone as tame as myself. I like to say the only club I have been to is a book club. Hahaha.

Two nights ago, I attended another party. This one was a TIFF Party - John Varvatos Fashion Show at Ultra Supper Club. I would like to thank my new publicist-in-trainng friend, Ranu, for telling us about this party. I'm determined to cross the boundaries of just 'fashion' based networking since I believe fashion is a lot more then clothes. I brought some friends from outside the industry and thank god my friend, Veruca, brought a camera! Most of these pictures are from her camera. :) Thank you, Veruca!

I wore my new dress I ordered off Taobao from the supplier of Japanese Gyaru brand, Snidel. It's gorgeous! I bought it in pink, too! I love Snidel because it combines my love of Mori aesthetic with a romantic and girly silhouette. I'll be writing a review about my first experiences using Taobaospree and ordering from direct suppliers.

Goodbye, Quarter-life Crisis!

For the longest time I whined about a life change. More like a quarter-life crisis. Haha.

Things weren't looking so good on so many levels. Friendships deteriorated, I felt bitter, lost, my emotions were a train wreck, and I felt that everything that could possibly go wrong was going wrong. But, after so much introverted hermiting I rejuvenated my social juices and decided to take the plunge despite my rather hectic scheduling at work. I have always firmly believed you make your own life and only you can change it. Only if you have the guts to that is. Your own happiness is in your hands.

We, as humans are a creature of habit. We constantly believe in a routine and sometimes we are so set in it that it's so hard to change. We hold grudges. We let petty people live in our heads who have nothing better to do. We dwell on things that hold us back never taking that step forward. We don't take risks.

I'm happy to say that my life change has arrived. I took the advice of a friend and attended this fashion workshop locally called Passion for Fashion. It has changed my life. Despite being in Environmental Studies fashion has always been my passion. Creating things is my passion. I feel at peace and happy because this is my calling. It's amazing how small the world is. Knowing people who know people you know. Things aren't so scary when you know that. I have a new circle of friends who aspire for the same thing as me. The most amazing thing being that these people have vastly different educational backgrounds just like me but they are still following their dreams. How inspiring. I am going to go further - just signed on a burlesque production and will be sitting in with at a high fashion photoshoot next week. Can't wait! Goodbye, quarter-life crisis.

New Stockist: HELLS BELLES and Late Summer ~ Early Autumn Items

As of August 9th I have added a new Stockist for my items. You can now find my items at Hells Belles at Queen Street West and Spadina. They are one of the longest running Goth stores in Toronto and it is an honor to work and sell with them!

They will specifically carry my Men's Accessory line, Dandy Boy. So far, this includes black and white bird skull cuff links, corded necklaces, and lapel pins. I have juuuuust found adjustable Men's ring bases so expect those to be stocked in a few more weeks. They also carry my Women's taxidermy line with white and black bird skull necklaces and adjustable rings.

Please, check them out if you are are passing by Toronto! You will not be disappointed! :)

These are some new hair slides I made. Some will most likely be available online but I'm not too sure as of yet. They'll be making their debut appearance at my first ever craft show (The Creative Heart Collective) at The Gladstone Hotel - September 18th. If they sell well, I'll be making more in the coming months but as of now they are test products. I think they are unbelievably adorable.

These are the Dandy Boy bird skull necklaces for Men. I thought that fine chain would be too delicate and opted for some waxed cotton cord instead. I could see a guy wearing this quite nicely!

Here's what the packaged goods of what I dropped off to Hells Belles look like. 13 items in total and notice how the Men's items have pure white tags and Women's items have vintage colored tags.

Here's some Mori Girl items I made. Lace bow barrettes in three color ways: Tea-stained, Ecru, and Cream. Gorgeous and they come with not pictured pearl and charm dangles! Perfect for keeping hair out of your face when the autumn winds blow.

Lastly, here's a sneak peek at my new Autumn line under, Ofelia Ljuv. Very foresty and Mori Girl. The charms are motifs in nature that I hold dear to my heart: mushrooms, squirrels, acorns, and leaves. I will be selling them in sets at a promotional price and loose pieces. They'll be on my ETSY this coming week as will so many of my other items!

Pictures and Purchases!

It's actually my Birthday today! But, I have had a stomach bug for the past few days. It's been a little too long to be food poisoning. I had big plans to go to Centre Island and fulfill my childhood dream of riding 4 person bike and canoeing. But, it's raining as I type! :( I also wanted to go out for a massive sushi dinner - but, it's ruined by my stomach problem. So sad! :/

But, I managed to finish all the sample products for my Men's accessory line called, Dandy! :) I have a meeting with a popular Goth store on Queen Street West this Tuesday with the Owner and Buyer. My only concern is that I will desperately need to break my supply binge for the month of August because I need more black bird skulls. I need enough for more cuff links and necklaces. I also ran out of silver chains prematurely. I really under estimated just how much coverage I would need to cover two consignments and a craft show in September.

I'm actually going to be at the Creative Heart Collective Craft Show at The Gladstone Hotel September 18th. If you are in Toronto, please, feel free to drop by and chat! :)

I have also finished a new range of items which include hair slides and teeny brooches. It'll be posted in my next post! I promise. I will also begin updating my Etsy like mad in the coming days. I know I have been posting a lot of products but never listing. Sorry! I promise to get to it soon! I'll post my complete Men's Collection soon. :)

I have always been really bad at styling my hair. Haha. But, now that I am growing it I have decided to try my hand at braiding. Not bad. I added my H&M flower headband for a Mori and Natural-Kei touch. I'll be updating more outfit posts, too!

My mom made me a Toadstool hat one Christmas. I love it to death and it looks great with braids!

My new apartment is close to so many vintage stores. One notable one is, I Miss You which specializes in 1980's-1970's and under high end vintage. I found this gorgeous leather bag for a mere $25 and it fits my iPad 2! :D

Another vintage store I would recommend is called CTS which is a short form for Canadian Thrift Stores. Their tiered pricing system actually makes things more at a thrifty value then a market value. Many vintage stores in Toronto price their items based on trends and market value. CTS defies this - I got this skirt for $12.99. It's a dropped waist with pintucks, clung lace, ruffles, and cream cotton. It's absolutely perfect for Mori Girl.

Death & Sneak peek of New July Product!

It's been a tough week. I just attended my first open casket Wake yesterday. One of my closest friend's mother died a couple days ago. It was all so sudden. :'( I bawled when I heard she had a few months to live and then a couple days later she passed. I cried a lot over it. I didn't breakdown at the Wake which was a slight relief. Nothing worst then being the loud catalyst of grief - when I cry I get pathetically loud and clogged. My heart and prayers go out to my friend's family. Especially my friend who has been nothing less then precious and to this day remains one of my most steadfast buddies. I love you, A.

That aside, been busy working on new designs! I have also expanded into Men's accessories. Lots of Mori Girl + Mori Boy / Dolly Boy items. Dolly Kei headpiece. Natural Kei + Fur Puffs and Tails are back after so many personal requests! Here's a few quick low quality pictures of my items until I get them photographed nicely. :) Enjoy!

Blog Revamp + TNK Restock + New Hairbow!

I have been sick all Saturday. To the point I had to call in sick for the first time in months since this year. It seems like I have either given myself food poisoning (seeing as I am quite clumsy) or had a 24 hour stomach bug that some people at work currently have. Either way, the images of microbes dancing across my vision right now is revolting.

I added a button on the side called ‘Appify’ which will be my reviews, commentary, and such about Apple products, apps, and information for fellow Creatives and Creative Lifesytles-Businesses. I will refrain from random posting only to specifically target the Creative and Business niche. I begin my first iPad App review this Monday on Wacom-developed, Bamboo Paper. I’ll be attending the Toronto Apple Expo July 12th - reporting from a Creative perspective.

I restocked my items at Tomorrow Never Knows - a vintage and handmade store curated by the lovely, Eva Bowering. You will find more fascinators, lace applique necklaces (gold and silver chains) and taxidermy jewelry (rings and necklaces in gold and silver chains).

If you are in Toronto I would HIGHLY recommend that you visit her store and Ransack the Universe which are in the same building. Both carry my items and some of my mom’s items!

Despite the pain I told myself I had to be productive. I spent most of the day doing the moooost Photoshop in my life. Maybe, just maybe I might be getting the hang of Photoshop finally. I totally revamped the blog! LOOK! Isn’t it more beautiful and simple? :)

I also got a mailing list service up, set up my blog pages (upper navigation bar), made new earrings, and sewed some lace bow barrettes. I also have a new listing for up for Amigurumi Pea Pods by my mom on Etsy. I need better pictures of everything - so expect that all to be done by the next few weeks. :)

The lace bow barrette (seen in picture above) has been stocked at Tomorrow Never Knows and my Etsy for $20 CDN. I am in the process of making them in three colors: ecru, cream (pictured) and tea-stained (in progress).

New Mori Girl, Cult Party Kei, and Dolly Kei pieces

Just a brief picture update of what I have been working on for my mostly finished June Ofelia Ljuv Collection.

Lots of headbands and necklaces with pastel tones mixed with neutrals. I have begun making more pendant brooch-necklaces on a smaller scale which will be priced lower then my current pieces. What do you think? Love them or hate them? I'm totally open to comments and suggestions!

Heavy Heart and Purchases

I have finally been feeling the effects of losing a close friend. A best friend for that matter. But, in many ways my life is a lot more simpler and it’s a lot more suitable for my introvert personality. I like placid days of just ‘Me’ time. There’s less drama, less heartbreak of seeing someone intentionally want to hurt themselves with their relationship, and a lot less things to worry about in terms of responsibilities. At the same time sometimes I feel like I am losing it without some piece of her close to me. I think I really lost something and I’m really too stubborn to fully acknowledge it. But, I don’t think it will ever be the same for a little while - she has changed too much even though she may not acknowledge it. That change is the true beast rearing it’s head and I want no part in such pettiness.

I have been slowly working on my June Collection. But my heart weighs heavily on the fact Canada Post is still on strike and lockdown. I really hope it ends soon - I just sent out an update to all buyers on their items (be it stuck somewhere in Canada or has yet to be sent). It reminds me too much of my York University strike two years ago where students like myself were barred from classes for almost 6-7 months because the Teaching Assistants went on strike. It actually makes me a little depressed thinking about it. I really feel intimidated by strikes and the rallying crowds. I’m sure everyone has their causes but don’t try to get me to join in as it’s not my fight.

I cheered myself up with a new dye job. I am now somewhere between an ash brown and old remains of my fiery red hair.

And, I went shopping for more supplies. I am the biggest supply hoarder ever. I went to one of my favourite stores (which I live rather close to now). MOKUBA is a Japanese lace trim and notion store and everything they carry is made by their company in Japan. I am in love with pastels right now and you’ll see lots of it in my new June Collection. It’ll also included clothes! This isn’t the only lace I bought either…I’ll do a separate post on that later.

I have had people ask me why my items are so expensive (I don’t think they are). Well, this is one of the reasons why. I use very very high quality lace. It’s either from Mokuba, heirloom American lace, out of production laces or one-of-a-kind vintage. Mokuba costs me an arm even with my business discount and I don’t compromise. I only go for the best. While, my vintage laces (some which are out of product laces) can never be found again.

With such limited quantities and amount of time it takes to hand sew (I don’t glue anything unless it can’t be sewn on) my pendant pieces - why should I charge myself under? Also, keep in mind if a pendant necklace takes 2-3 hours to make and the Canadian minimum wage is $10.25/hour then it’ll cost a LOT more then some worker in China making $2 a day. This is the value of handmade and quite frankly to have it not done in a sweatshop means you have to pay the prices.

I also bought a dress in Chinatown. My close friend, Em, bought a dress different from mine. Looks heavenly on her! I hope we can have an outfit shot of both soon. This was a little more pricy then I’d like to admit but it was so different from the sickening clusterfucks of floral on floral in the store. Plus, I am a huuuuuuuge sucker for flowy georgette and chiffon. I like simplicity with chiffon. It fits me like a glove and looks perfect. I can’t wait to wear it out. I only have another green dress in this tone and for some reason this color looks really nice on my tanned skin. :)

I recently moved. 5 days ago. It’s been an extremely stressful time but at the same time I am so ecstatic about it. One of my oldest and closest friend’s, Em, lives several floors below mine. It’s a brand new building in a budding area of the city right by Liberty Village. I have a lot of friends and acquaintances in the area from elementary and high school. I’m on penthouse level, too! The view is amazing! Check out my pictures above! I am so happy. Everything is finally unpacked, too. Can’t wait to start creating beautiful stuff for my brand, Quaintrella.

Quaint tidbits for the enlarged soul

I am just a little upset I didn’t go to Anime North this year. If I had gotten a table - I would be there as it would make it financially feasible to attend. I had given my hotel room to a friend but I found out recently that they didn’t remove my credit card information from the file and now I have a hold on my freaking credit card for the hotel fee. Doubletree - I hate you.

Either way, moving is a top priority - and can you believe it?! I move in a week. A WEEK! I can’t wait - I have a penthouse level apartment that I will be deathly scared to peer out of due to a phobia with heights. Heights make the fireflies that live in my stomach whirl around and around and around. Or, so I would like to think. :)

I was inspired by a friend of mine, Chu, also a fellow Mori Girl. She had a table at AN last year and it was amazing. I wish I could have bought some things from her but I wasn’t physically there this time around. :( So sad. Her stuff has the aesthetic of what I would call ugly-cute. It’s very endearing - at first it was strange to me but then it grew on me like mould.

I was inspired by her to remember my previous plans (among many) to incorporate Pink House aesthetic of childishness into mature detailing. It’s hard to explain - but Pink House is one of the oldest labels in Japan for modern alternative clothing. It is said to be the root of Gothic & Lolita fashion before it became what it is today. But, Pink House is an expert at melding seemingly childish things into something wonderful and cute. Japanese housewives are their main clientele and we all know Japanese housewives are also huge lovers of Hello Kitty. So, there is something about cute and mature that somehow goes hand and hand in this scenario.

That aside. I made my first multiple sale and went crazy using that money to buy supplies. I bought 20 tiny handmade doilies, 18 handmade-and-vintage doilies in small and medium sizes, and 100 buttons made from wood in the shape of adorable animals like the ones I posted in my blog. I also got a Heartsy Membership and bought a voucher for 200 stamped wildlife tags. I’ve noticed that while my stamps are awesome the ink isn’t - it smudges. So, until I get more awesome ink I’ll be using these gorgeous tags for my items. :)

Ofelia Ljuv - May Collection!

Hey everyone! May is just about to end which means I just about finished my May items for Ofelia Ljuv. This month’s items is inspired by Spring, my awesome Mother, and Heirlooms. I ordered a lot of vintage and handmade doilies and enjoyed working with them so much that I used 9 of them in a matter of 1 day or sewing. Which is an accomplishment as I generally hoard supplies for months. I have ordered a lot more doilies now and in different sizes. I also have have used up all my brooch-clip combinations which means I’ll have to order a massive amount in the next week.

Busy Busy! New jewelry: Mori Girl Pendant Necklaces and Bird Skull Jewelry

I have been immensely busy. A large quantity of my older Ofelia Ljuv Collection (the Mori Girl line) under Quaintrella is now available at Nathalie-Roze & Co. boutique in Toronto's Leslieville. It was an exciting experience and Nathalie is really awesome and I found her to be one of the most wonderful boutique shopkeepers I have ever met since starting this whole consignment business after leaving my business partner. She gave me so much advice and support. I will be eternally grateful for that openness and inspirational stuff she told me. :) I wish there were more people like her - or at least I started out with her as my first consignment shop (though, technically - I did wholesale with her). And, I just found out I have known of her back in my high school days through her Frugal Fashionista columns in the newspapers. Small world.

I have been contacted by another boutique. The funny thing is I actually talked to the boutique owner a few weeks back about my taxidermy jewelry and then she randomly found me on Etsy and was interested in my Mori Girl items. Since, I sold a significant quantity to Nathalie I began working on more. It was sweatshop-mode...I was able to make 9 pieces in one day. See below. That is the greatest input I have done in a day for these things. Usually I average around 3 a day if I can put my mind to it. But, seeing that people like my stuff and continuously tell me they have never seen anything like it - I feel pumped!

See my most recent work below. I began making bird skull rings. I personally HATE costume jewelry ring bases so I will only make them with sterling silver or gold. It ups the price by a lot but at the same time you will never have a green finger. :) I also ordered my brand label tags and more vintage doilies. I just need my business cards and then I should be good. :)

Today, was a bit of an unproductive day. Being a night owl (not by choice) usually means I get the most workta done in the dead hours of the night - I live in downtown Toronto which means that there are no sirens, crazy people yelling, or traffic to interrupt my thoughts at 2 AM - 5 AM in the mornings.

I mentioned in my previous post I worked on a lot of product for consignments. Here, are more pieces which are mostly going into consignments. Ransack the Universe carries most of the wooden pins and a unique wooden necklace! Don't be afraid to check out their rather awesome store!

My newest piece to date. Bird skull rings. I have a huuuuge pet peeve regarding costume jewelry rings (necklaces are a-okay in my book). I hate how they always turn my fingers green. So, I decided to only use sterling silver ring bases. Unfortunately, they only come in size 6 and I have yet to find gold bases. :( Also, I used gold chains on all my necklaces which means there'll be a switch over to half of the stock to silver chains.

While these pieces aren't particularly reflective of all my latest fiber-based pendent necklaces. They represent a new foray into using ceramic beads and charms. I'm not sure if I should put these into consignment so I believe they will be on ETSY soon enough!

I'm the biggest supply hoarder - I always think there's a use for everything. You guys, have no ideas how happy I am to find a use for my ceramic bead charms!!! All my Mori Girl and fiber-based pieces are stuffed with the exterior cut-outs and left overs. No waste. I also recycle shoulder pads for forms. Sometimes, I like to think of Mori Girl fashion as earth-loving since there is such a close affinity to nature when I think about it.

Another project I am going to start is the dismantling of all my super-long upcycled and vintage fox tails. I have waited for the listings to expire on my Marionette Atelier ETSY so now the surgery can begin! They will be half in length and price! :) I know many people have asked me for shorter ones. Well, now - there will be shorter ones!

Sleepless Nights of Preparation and New Handmade Items

Here's what stock preparations look like for my upcoming meeting with a local boutique tomorrow afternoon. :) Looks orderly doesn't it? It was tedious to label and organize but well worth it. :)

So far, it's been a busy few weeks. I've been soliciting local boutiques in an attempt to push my product locally. I managed to get my Mom's crochet goods into Propaganda - but, that backfired a little due to miscommunication. I'm a little saddened by this setback but I learned a lot from it while talking to those closest to me. I now know how to better handle myself in these situations of business. It's my first consignment so I won't beat myself up over it. I have a large line up - I am highly adaptable, skilled, and my tastes are so varied with many different influences. Good for me, that clientele can be just as diverse as my tastes. :)

Since my last post I have accomplished quite a lot. Ransack the Universe now carries some of my wooden pins, crochet cellphone and bag charms, and wooden necklaces.

Voltaire Concert Outfit

Two nights ago on Easter Sunday, I attended a Voltaire Concert in my city with some of the local Lolita Community. I have been under a lot of stress lately so it was definitely something to take my mind off the depressing matters that have plagued me. I altered the first Lolita JSK I made (with cotton lining) to fit me like a glove because before it was a tad loose on my frame.

Overall, the show was awesome! I got to see one of my friend's perform with her band, Amy's Arms and that was really cool. I got to meet Voltaire, he stroked my fox stole, we took a group Lolita community picture and I also got a picture of my best friend and him together (my close friend has that picture on her camera). Voltaire is absolutely engaging in person - he told funny jokes, Told hilarious stories, had so much sass I found it riveting. He was like a breath of fresh air compared to the other concerts I had been to in the past.

I will definitely go and see him again when he visits Toronto again.

Brand-spanking-new handmade headpiece! Sparrow Skulls! Finds!

The weather has been absolutely horrible here in Toronto. Hot, cold, hot, cold, rain…and I hear there’s going to be snow on Monday. Seriously, it’s mid-late April and we are getting SNOW?!

I don’t get it. My program has been all about global warming and how weather patterns / phenomenon such as El Nino and El Nina dictate these shifts yet I still am unable to believe just how directly it effects everyone. This also means a late growing season for farmers and it’ll effect so many things. I can’t grow my edible flowers yet because I’m too afraid to let them grow outside and starting them inside with such dreary weather doesn’t get my hopes up, either.

That aside, I’ve been out of town and away from my studio due to a slight emergency. But, as always I’ve dragged most of my immediate portable materials with me and I whipped up a headpiece two nights ago (along with a few necklaces but I didn’t take pictures). Currently, I am working hard at expanding my collection for the meeting I have with a local boutique owner this coming Friday. I hope she likes my stuff and buys/carries it at her store!

It’s so beautiful. I can’t bear to part with it unless offered a small fortune. :) It’s very Dolly-Kei and I can’t wait to coordinate it. I really love the warm copper charms I imported which add to the overall warmth and richness of red accents and the red wool bow.

I begin with a brief laying out of what I prospectively want the headpiece to look like.

I don’t sleep for a whole night working on things like this and at 7-8 AM the sun shines.

I bless my items with the first rays of sunshine. Haha. Then photographing commences.

On another note, I also got my custom order of plastic casted sparrow skulls from an across the border taxidermist after literally almost 2 months of waiting. It was a long and somewhat tedious wait but well worth what I got. I really wish I had gotten most of the skulls drilled because they look really awesome as necklaces. What do you guys think?

Also, made a nice find at Dollarama recently. I’ve been desperately looking for millenary branches with buds - I tried Queen West, Fabricland…but was then recommend Michael’s. I found exactly what I was looking for at Dollarama instead - with at least 5 colortones in a huge branch for a mere $1. Score! I left with pale green and cream buds.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks of ups and downs.

University is finally done - I hope I got the marks I wanted as I did work my ass off this term to make up for a rather lacking first term. At least I know I did my best and if anything doesn’t go planned then a new door will always open.

I have been prepping for selling at Anime North since the beginning of this year - but since leaving Marionette Atelier I may have really screwed myself over. How? My former partner got a table. I bought the iPad 2 (waited for 6 hours in the cold), got tired, and slept through the deadline. Hahaha. I’ve paired up with a new friend who is near the top of the waiting list (while I sit at 41). But, I have doubts I’ll be selling this year. God, the irony.

It’s disappointing.

But, when a door closes another opens. A local boutique owner who’s store I was going to approach this week and I’ve had absolutely no contact with…actually emailed me via Facebook saying she’d be interested in my items. WHAT?! WHAAAAAAAT! This is so awesome. I’ve emailed her back - haven’t been able to sleep since because I am psyched. So, expect to Quaintrella items in Toronto boutiques soon. :3

Headpieces are literally a larger translation of my pendent necklaces. They were harder to layout then I had anticipated. I sat there for 2-3 hours figuring it all out. I loved the end result. What do you guys think?

At the same time, a lot of my supplies for AN preparations have come in after a month. Notably, my Mori Girl wig and my NEO Toric Extra Dali Gray Circle Lenses. Review to come the circle lenses in an upcoming post. But, they look pretty natural - the wig and lenses. I had to order specific ones for my astigmatism. I am so happy with them. Though, they do make me look a little bit more exotic with my normal hair. I actually looked mixed with Russian with my dyed normal hair due to my jawline? Not sure. More pictures to ensue. I’m so happy with them both. :D

Sunday So_Lolita Meet Up

It’s unfortunate that my Contest Post (don’t forget to check it out below!) is probably going to be swallowed by this post among others. But, since I had a very important Moderator Meet (this is the FIRST time all of the So_Lolita Mods were able to meet collectively this year) I chose to switch shifts and attend - but, I hadn’t the time to dress in Lolita so I went in my more primped up ‘Everyday Wear’. I’m the girl with the giant red headbow and pink tulle tutu. My bestfriend, Aya, hugs me. I really missed Meets. I was actually really ill from a 12 hour migraine after watching Sucker Punch the night before - but once I ate and popped some painkillers I was social and ready to socialize.

I have a really bad habit of freaking out and panicking before meets, never sleeping the night before, and showing up somewhat like a zombie - not quite social, not quite healthy, and not quite alive. Haha. But, this one was awesome. I met some old and new Lolitas. Plus, Aya recruited a model for my Lolita presentation on Tuesday. Impressive.

iPad 2: Successfully Obtaining It

If there anything I find more gratifying then making things, shopping, fashion, the environment and stuffing my fatty face with good food it’s…drumroll…Apple Products. I’m a hardcore fangirl due to the significant other and close friends having a serious effect on my consumerist habits.

Well, I spent March 25th lined up in cold Canadian weather for 6 hours in front of Bestbuy to obtain it. I seriously thought I was a giant fool because I didn’t dress warmly enough, I already have a bad cold, I went out of my budget, I was stressed, I brought two bags of crafting supplies because I thought they were going to line us up inside…everything just about almost went above my head.

But, after hours of shivering like an idiot I got it.

It was like a little piece of heaven. I was giggling like an idiot who found a perfectly rounded poo on a stick and admiring it’s impossible symmetry. I’m not sure where that example comes from but I hope it conveys my happiness.

It was quite a pretty penny as I went for the 32GB White Wifi iPad. But, well worth it since I am a technological hoarder (I never delete much off my laptop, iPhone, or anything else for that matter).

Here’s me looking derpy and super happy. I look like a mess after being so tired, cold, and exhausted after the whole thing. So happy!

New Sample Products: Earrings

Lately, I’ve been finding myself drawn to the intricate designs of laser-cut wood. While, a little more fragile then I like (I take a long time looking over the stuff before purchasing) they are very light and beautiful. I’m one of those girls who gets headaches when I wear really heavy earrings but with these sorts of earrings they are painless. :) These should be up on Etsy soon. By the way, 10% of all my sale proceeds are going to Doctors Without Borders for the Japanese Earthquake Relief.

I have actually left Marionette Atelier so I will be making a new shop soon. Which I will link here. I’ll wait till my listings expire before doing so officially. I may be having second thoughts about the whole thing but in some aspect my partner and I have such different business ethics that they clash. Plus, I’m on a whole different scale of art then she is. I’m all about progress and she’s all about whim. We fought like crazy but both came to the realization we are best as friends right now. We still plan on opening a boutique together in the future and I have best hopes she’ll up her creational ability to my level. At least a a boutique she can re-sell all she wants. I can create all I want.

I think the new store will be called The Quaintrella. It’ll encompass all the styles I like: Gothic, Lolita, Mori Girl, Dolly Kei, Otome, Retro, Vintage…etc. I’ve already begun on my Otome collection. Just waiting for my supplies to arrive from abroad. I love the colors of Fairy Kei but the juvenile look really isn’t for me. So, I love the Otome style of Baby Ribbon and I’m inspired by the modernity and femininity that Otome style has.

Anime North Preparations

I've created a lot more products for Mori Girl and Gothic Lolita.

Mostly earrings - I will be trying tierred pricing to hit up customers who may not be able to afford my more pricy items. No, pictures for now since I'm typing on iPad at the moment which can't upload pictures unless I buy the app. I've begun compiling the Lolita and Otome clothing materials I need to make OPs, JSKs, and Skirts for an upcoming convention in May. I will be heading a table separate from my business partner, Aya, because I have a lot more stock this year. At the same time I am working on a top secret project related to Anime North. I'll post tidbits on here but I don't want my competitors to know my little surprise. My skulls will take longer then usual to make since the taxidermist I ordered them from is working on some large scale projects. I hope I get them by the end of this month or early April. :/

I may also be helping out at an Anime North panel titled The Enchanted Forest: Mori Girl, Dolly Kei, and Natural Kei fashion. I need a date and time to confirm it before committing. I'll be helping out with information, modeling, and even giving away loot bags of my created products. I had a horrid experience last time with fashions show since some of my clothes got damaged and I never got recognition. But, I hope this time it'll be better. I still feel bitter about the whole thing and it's my fault I never told the organizers. I will, but in due time.

I also feel bad about Japan's situation. My next sales post for the communities will feature 10% of all proceeds of my items to selected charities helping Japan right now. I think Docotors without Borders would be my best bet. So far, made one sale and raised $5.

Handmade Mori Girl Accessories: Necklaces, Furs, and Headpiece!

Well, this is going t turn into a giant post where I dump everything into one photo post. Apologies in advance.

Life, has been slightly complicated lately. School consumes my life and I haven't been sleeping at sane times. I sleep at 4-5AM most days for an average of 4-6 hours and today I haven't even slept. Haha. I'm going to go crazy! My first term this year was so full of life drama piled on top of each other that my grades suffered badly. I've moved 3 times since. But, the great news is that my marks this term are mostly top of the class. My lowest mark so far has been a measly 76% on an assignment but I've been consistently topping my home Environmental Studies courses and I've been forcing myself to participate in discussions to fight for any marks. I just got back last terms exam and a recent midterm and I was sitting at 87% and 85%. My assignments are now mostly either the 75% +, 85% or 100%. My TA's are amazed... I'm not stupid. I procrastinate. But, my life is very complicated sometimes. Being a Leo I can't help but feel awesome about it all. Why? For someone who wasn't in class much it's so drastic and I really want to fan my own ego. The Environmental Studies course average consistently sits at 65-75% in my current year. If I am beating it- I can actually get scholarships and more grants. Something, that has never crossed my mind until now.

I have always liked the idea of a local community dedicated to a fashion but had something that reached beyond fashion itself. I created Forest Doll for the Toronto Mori Girl, Dolly Kei, and Natural Kei lovers.

There is a new local community for anyone interested in the Mori Girls, Natural Kei or Dolly Kei fashion in Southern Ontario named forestdoll. It is open to anyone from the surrounding area of Ontario whose interested in exploring nature, who love vintage clothes, who love crafting, flora and fauna, mushrooms, hiking, shopping for secondhand things, antiques, quaintrelle aesthetics, layering and old things.

Part of forestdoll will also be dedicated to exploring every nook and cranny that Toronto has to offer in terms of vintage stores, antique stores, brands, cafes, folk music, sewing/knitting/felting/crocheting workshops, and fostering what we have in our city and beyond has to offer in relation to the said fashions.

After Snow Day thoughts (heavy subject matters)...

Yesterday was a Snow Day for me.

My University declared it a state of emergency and shut down and all that snow on the ground is making it hard to get back home safely. Or on time. I guess, this isn’t really a relevant post regarding creations, fashion, or shopping. But, I’ve come to this interesting conclusion about my program of study which is Environmental Studies.

It’s one of those programs that’s really all encompassing. I will admit, I am better suited for the Arts and Fashion (got in but parents refused to pay for my tuition so I went into this instead) but Environmental Studies has a this way of connecting everything and everyone. How, all these problems can be fixed if we worked together and saw the bigger picture. It’s inspiring and this year it seems like I have some of the most intelligent and action oriented classmates. Things, somehow clicked a few days ago and it’s been like I’ve had a fever that broke. I understand now. I feel inspired.

At the same time. It’s fucking depressing sometimes. I’m focusing on the Management stream and it touches upon a lot of politics. I hate politics. I have friends who are going to be politics. I really hope that their education isn’t preparing them to be liars. I’m really fucking sick of watching people being elected to their fucking titles in the Canadian Parliamentary Cabinet positions of say…the Minister of Environment and…

A: Not giving a shit.
B: Not having a goddamn Science background.
C: Using the position as a means of obtaining a cushy pension.
D: Having a 2-4 year term and never accomplishing shit.

This thing makes me angry beyond belief. Here we are, living in a mired world where climate change is really effecting us and the goddamn government refuses to acknowledge it. We wait for the fucking US to set the laws before we follow suit. Pisses me off.

Beyond this anger. I feel this need. This drive. To be part of the bigger picture. I’m declaring my degree of concentration this year. I’ll be Majoring in Environmental Studies - Management and Minoring in Biology. I think I’ll pursue a Masters and focus on Mycology (study of mushrooms) then stream into Mycoremediation. I’m okay at Science. I’ll have to improve a lot. I’m actually much better at understanding then the concepts and theories then doing the quantitative portions.

I just hope that I can make a difference in the future.

Oh, and own a mushroom farm along the way.

Dolly Kei Swap - Finished Handmade Items and More!

Dolly Kei Swap items: the elusive Baroque HUE tights, handmade headpiece and handmade upcycled aboriginal hunted fur with removable bow and chains.

I finally completed my Dolly Kei Swap items! My besfriend, Aya has been looking for those HUE tights since we saw it on the Anthropologie website. We've tromped though some of Toronto's best and high-end legging stores in Yorkville (3-4 stores to be exact) and never found it. It wasn't until we went to the iconic Bay on Queen-Yonge that we found a few pairs. Aya, Em, and I bought them out. Scary - herd mentality among friends. I bought two pairs: one for my Swap partner because she wanted tights and since we seemed to have similar tastes I went ahead with the purchase. It was a really really good sale. (You'll hear this a lot on here because it's my sad attempt to justify my spending habit). 70% off the original price. These are expensive and limited edition tights so it was really worth it.

I just finished her headpiece since she liked Mori Girl (like myself) I thought a small and subtle headpiece would be good for both Dolly and Mori Girl. Finally, the epic fur tail. She requested for accessories and wouldn't mind fur. It's upcycled fur - it's not new nor vintage. It's aboriginal-hunted and it's a true wild fox. I cut the tail in half and gave her the top part. I hope she likes it. She stated maroon as one of her favorite colors. Since, I like that color too I had really expensive Mokuba (Japanese-imported) ribbon with a medieval feel, made a rose, and added some Dolly Kei-esque charms and viola! Done. The bow and chain is removable so she can use it in her Classic Lolita outfits, too. Versatility is key to whatever I make.

I hung out with a friend and we went to Zara. He ended up buying a pure leather jacket for a awesome price of $59.99 - so jealous! I bought that pink top and the teddy bear top on sale, also. $6 and $10, respectively. The skirt was an early 2011 buy for $10 at H&M which I knew I could coordinate into Dolly Kei. Oh, and there are my pair of Baroque tights by HUE from The Bay.

Lastly, a picture of my coordinate for yesterday. I toned down the eyeliner and I forgot to put on my glasses as I had by sister take this picture with my iPhone before she went to work. Tehehe. I have a fatty face and I'm beady eyed without my glasses. One thing I can say about this coordinate is that playing with 5 colors in Mori Girl is hard.

New Handmade Creations, Buys, and Outfit Shots!

I tend to do my posts in a giant conglomerate of my whereabouts, buys, and creations every so often. Which, isn't quite that often. I've been ill a lot recently with frequent trips to doctors. Let's hope the blood test today I will be doing will tell me why my immune system has been so lacking of the late. I may have cut back on some shopping it hasn't stopped me from adding to my Dolly and Mori Girl wardrobe. Been shopping SALE areas of my favorite stores and gathering inspiration from what I see around me. Lately, the inspiration been from texture, soft Spring colors, and pompoms.

Here is one of my first buys for 2011. I found a Gunne Sax looking 60's dress at CTS (a local vintage store located at Spadina-Queen) for $9.99. You could have imagined my joy at the fact ALL their vintage dresses were $9.99 and I found one that fit me perfectly (except for the height part) and was the same era as my Gunne Sax dress. It's a Canadian brand called Shamash & Yofi which used to be sold at the Eaton Centre during the 60's. It had slight spot stains on the netting but it all came out during a light hand washing. I tried my best to coordinate it and it came out pretty Mori Girl with my new bag especially.

Here are some of my next purchases. The bag is from a local strip mall I found for $10 flat. A nice brocade with gold thread weaved dress from Urban Outfitters on sale for $29.99, a butterfly headband on sale for $4.99, a lace tanktop from Dragon City shop in Chinatown for $19, and organic yarn for my mom at $15. This outfit is one of my many attempts at Mori Girl. At least I photographed this because I didn't have a tripod until recently - yet another 2011 buy. Haha. Mori Girl plays on textures, layers, and softness. I have always loved the first kind of Mori Girl that uses excessive layers of creams with occasional use of other colors. The dark beige ham sleeved cardigan was bought two days ago at the sale rack of Costa Blanca in Yorkville (PATH Mall) for $4.99. Usually, not a fan of acrylic but for $4.99 and 10% lambswool I think it was worth it. Oh! And those khaki colored boots are from Aldo purchased 2 days ago online for $19.98 on sale down from $70. :D Awesome!

Finally, I got my Xmas gift from my mom. It's a fox stole made from yarn. I saw one on the Anthropologie website for a whopping $380 CDN and got my mom to make me a similar one. I LOVE IT. It's a shame I lost the acorn scarf she made me or else these two scarves would be friends in my wardrobe. I am so glad I have such a talented mom who gave me her talented genes. :D I'll coordinate it once I can find a way to incorporate more gray into my wardrobe. My mom has already begun making me a new acron scarf but I want my next one to be made of godly materials and not acrylic. It'll cost me a leg but it will last forever.

Ofelia Ljuv is one of my brands under Marionette Atelier. Marionette is owned by my best friend, Aya and I. But we have such distinctly different tastes that it conflicted with our visions. Handmade: Little Wool Beret Hat

I've been making a crazy amount of wool headbows. I'll post those pictures later! But, I think wool is so awesome. Some people are allergic to it - but it's so easy to work with because it doesn't fray. It's textured, it can be re-felted (have to learn that), and it feels natural. I love it!

I made this little beret hat headpiece from small wool scraps I bought from King's Textiles. Which reminds me. I should really go back and buy more wool - their student discount is great. I also need some pompom trim - I wish Mokuba had tiny pompom trim. But, they don't. Which surprises me.

I plan to make more little wool hats like this but in different colors and embroidery.

I remember selling at the rather under-selling Bazaar of the Bizarre and being approached by a woman who owned a consignment shop in Toronto called Ransack the Universe. I had her card for ages in my purse and finally found it - coincidentally, the location also presided INSIDE a vintage store (69 Vintage Collective) I had wanted to visit for a LONG time. I met up with a local Lolita, Stacy - whose blog I've linked to for those interested - and she directed me to 69 Vintage Collective where the basement belonged to Ransack the Universe. I thought it was distinctly home-grown enough to sell my mom's small variety of amigurumi. But, I have to check out the list of top consignment stores to see what I am up against and who I can appeal to. Also, I saw these CUTE wooden pins. I just HAD to buy them because they reminded me of my bestfriends - Aya and Em. But, I wanted this cute mushroom headed pin for myself - I ended up contacting the local artist who produced them and I should be getting it by this week's end. :)

Em got Little Red Riding Hood (who actually reminds me of my old rag doll) and Aya I bought a 1" Apple Faced character but decided that the Strawberry Face (which is bigger) would be better for her. I got myself a Pine Tree Faced thing, too. Check her out! Her work is amazing and from Toronto.

Looking at these makes me really want to try stamp work because it's a lot less time intensive then most of the crafts I do. I've always wanted to print my own fabric and stamps look easier then silk-screening...

I also recently joined the Mori Girl Secret Santa on LJ. I'm so excited.

Prospects

I just spent a disgustingly long amount of time browsing through ETSY. I went from 2-3 pages of Favourites 16 pages. Which means in two hours I added an additional 260 items. Wow.

So far, I've held back from making any personal purchases. I'll make do with my current stash until Anime North comes around in a few months. I've already put away money for registration - and I am going to start looking into consignment around Toronto. I really want to get my mom's amigurumi stuff out there - but for a good price. I found it very hard to sell at the same craft fair twice in a year - I did okay in the first one - but the foot traffic is horrid. Meaning, it was only 100 potential customers.

I have to get out there more. Socialize. Connect. With. People. Of. My. Kind.

I'll be visiting many places Monday to explore options. Plus, I am going to be attending a Craft Swap affair on Thursday at Ransack the Universe. :D

Updating ETSY is hard work. It's time consuming and I am lucky to have a friend who's taken her time and energy to take pictures for me and edit them. Now, I have a fancy camera (an early Christmas gift) that weighs more then it should but takes awesome photos. Now, it'll be my job to do the picture taking. So far, I've had 4 sales via ETSY, 1 via LJ, 1 potential shopping service from Mokuba, and one local one. Totalling it 6 so far.

Unfortunately, I am not happy with the types of sales - they are small fish. But, it adds up. Tomorrow, it'll be the tedious process of gathering all the stock then packaging them for shipment. I had to up some prices on ETSY because I totally forgot that on top of the $0.20/ listing and the 3.5% of the sale ETSY takes there's the goddamn Paypal fees. I am confused how this whole thing totals but after looking at it all. It's a little depressing. Ick.

I just updated the Etsy. Brand new pretty furry things - when I wear my foxtail or puffs I use them for stress relief. You know that part in the movie "Get Him To The Greek" where rockstar Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) tells Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) to "stroke the furry wall" because the multiple drug cocktail in that cigar he just smoked would make his heart speed up so fast he could die. That's how I get sometimes and it helps to have something to furry to stroke - even if it is dead.

I am not American. However, this whole Black Friday thing has really caught on the past few years in Canada.

I am not immune to this whole consumerism culture nor illusionary wealth of Black Friday. I've been shopping for cameras for myself for the past couple of months but I've been indecisive as to what to get. Saw a really cheap one by Olympus for $199 in the Basic Point and Shoot section of Bestbuy. It's simple but the display wasn't working so that definitely didn't help me. I think I need more experience with cameras before throwing myself at the micro 4/3rd prosumer camera. Already, looking at all the buttons on Canon prosumer cameras makes me a little confused.

So, I decided to buy what I know I am most familiar with. Clothes.

Clothes, are simply a girl's best friend aside from make-up. They change the way a girl can feel, look, and the way she carries herself. There's an association with clothes that might seem superficial but at the same time...it's natural. I love clothes. I love the textures, the fabric, the look, the feel...

I have been MIA for a little while due to some personal and family issues. The most recent one happened the beginning of this week. I missed a week of school in an attempt to resolve it. Hopefully, things turn out for the better. :)

I have been pretty busy the past few months.

FanExpo Lolita: I took part in a friend's Lolita presentation and fashion show. I lent a lot of items and while it didn't turn out as I had thought it would be (measurement bloopers with people I was lending the items to) it was still an experience. Here are a few pictures and videos of it:

It's usually like this when I attend a local Lolita Meet and it's even worst when I set one up. I haven't hosted one by myself in over a year because of just how emotionally and physically draining it is.

Lolita High Tea Meet: My bestfriend, Aya, set this one up at the Windsor Arms Hotel. Definitely, an experience that was unexpected. High tea is very fancy but I found most of the food to be overly sugary for my tastes. Next time, Aya and a few friends of mine will be going to a fancy Yorkville one with macaroons. iPhone 4 - Facetime! I recently moved away and I don't get to see my dog or his owner much. But since we both have iPhone 4's I have been able to see Cookie daily. Including him in training sessions with food on his face! :)

HALLOWEEN: My small group of girlfriends decided to go with a theme this Halloween. French Maids. Yes, I wore this to work and my whole department dressed up! Then, after work I had a dinner party at my sister's place in which we all cooked dinner together. :) Best Halloween ever, guys!

I have been really ill recently.

Had to undergo a few surgical procedures that really made me depressed. I shopped like no tomorrow as soon as I was able to walk, prepped for school, and my significant other bought me the iPhone 4. I may be getting an iPad from him very soon, too. :) Our 3 Year Anniversery is is tomorrow. :D

But, I am back in action now. I went to two Lolita Meet-Ups at my local community in a month which is usually rare since they are rarely planned so closely together. One was hosted by one of my bestfriend’s and business partner, Aya. We had High Tea at the Windsor Arm’s Hotel. She brought a friend, Shin. She had met at the U of T Go Club who is a photographer from Singapore (vacationing). He took literally hundreds of pictures of the group but he wasn’t going to be done editing until he went back to Singapore. Surprisingly, Yorkvillers loved our fashion and not ONE Lolita who came was in Sweet Lolita. All of us went in Classic Lolita or Gothic Lolita.

The other was hosted by Lona at Pacific Mall. But, I was still too drugged up to be really functional. It was fun nonetheless. We later met up with my childhood friend, Em, and took some professional photos. (Blogger is being a biatch right now so no photos).

Went to FanExpo to help out at a Lolita Fashion Panel for my friend, Nadine. She’s a video blogger on Youtube. I lent several outfits and also participated in the runway walk much to my shame. I actually wanted to run…a little freaked out with all the stares of so many eyes. Market researched with Aya at FanExpo and decided that it wasn’t really worth pursuing unless the management really stopped overcrowding the convention. It was so packed I couldn’t breathe.

I created a few things worth picture blogging about. But, not today. Aya and I got back into the Bazaar of the Bizarre Autumn Edition. I will once again be selling my things and my mom’s lovely Amigurumi. :) I’ll update soon with pictures, reviews, and tutorials.

School starts up for me next Monday, too! I am in the JP 2700 Contemporary Japanese Culture and Society class which is strangely twice a week. I’ll be dolled up twice a week, then! ;)

It specializes in Amigurumi which is Japanese crochet (of mainly animals and food).

You know, the only way to really control my shopping habits is to shop by NEED and WANTS. Judging by both, I’ll map out a rather large shopping list and then start doing some research.

Right now, I’m shopping for Summer-Autumn-maybe-some-Winter.

I already know for a fact that my Autumn and Winter wardrobe has been severely lacking the past couple of years. I have, who knows 3 long-sleeved shirts? I’ve been mostly relying on hoodies and cardigans to get me by. But, I can’t help but feel hoodies have become like my hobo-back-up. While my cardigans are being worn to death. So, I just bought some shirts off the EGL_Comm_Sales:

Both are rarely cute. Not going for anything too crazy during Winter - I have been known to give up on looks sometimes in favour of simply just dressing for warmth.

So, I finally caught the UPS guy after buying these at the Spring store at the Eaton Center last Friday. :) New shoes! I have so many shoes - but not all of them are practical or waterproof. Spring was having these for $24 ($26.95 after taxes) and they didn’t have any in stock. So, I had them shipped to my apartment. They are perfect for many genres: Steampunk, Dolly-kei, or Mori Girl. LOVE IT!

I also just ordered from ELF. Many blushes. Can’t wait to get it. It cost me $30 for like 7 products when it would normally cost me $30 bucks for one product at Sephora. In a few hours, I’ll be doing more shopping. Within reason, of course.
